L1 - Frequencies

07-05-2006

1 - Controllers :

When logging, you must use the frequency corresponding to the facility you are activating. The proper frequency can be found in the IVAO DATABASE or on the FIR/ARTCC pages of your division. Set your IvAc COM frequency accordingly.

As far as TeamSpeak is concerned, frequencies MUST NOT BE USED for the channel on IVAO voice servers. Here is the reason :

As far as 2 facilities can have the same frequency, it is required you use the callsign instead of the frequency when creating your channel. For instance, LFTW_APP frequency is 124.9. LFRS_APP frequency is 124.9 also. If both controllers log on it.ts.ivao.org/124.900 for instance, things are going to be a little bit complicated.  If they choose it.rw.ivao.org/LFTW_APP and it.ts.ivao.org/LFRS_APP, then every one will have his/her own RW channel, and the IvAp client will be able to change to the unit frequency.

2 - Pilots :

There is no need to worry about frequencies, TeamSpeak automatically switches your FS radio on the frequency of the controller you have chosen in the ATC directory. If you have any doubt, you can view controllers' frequencies in the IvAp client by right clicking on the button to the left of the active frequency.  It will list all active freqencies within range.

As far as TeamSpeak is concerned, IvAp automatically switches your TS channel on the proper IVAO TeamSpeak server when choosing an ATC in the ATC directory provided the controller wrote the ATIS correctly and accurately created the Teamspeak channel.

Remark : Choose the 122.800 which is called the UNICOM frequency when you are flying in an area where no ATC is available.  UNICOM 122.8 (UNIversal COMmunication) in IVAO is a traffic advisory frequency on which you must say your intentions and listen to other pilot's intentions in your area so that you can plan and coordinate accordingly.
In IVAO, currently, this means state your intentions on text and also read other pilot's intentions.

It is useful when several aircraft are on approach to an uncontrolled airfield.
See IVAO Pilots Rules and Regulations in http://ivao.org/rulregs/pilots.htm for further details
.

3 - Controllers and pilots :

A special frequency that everybody must know is the emergency frequency : 121.500 Mhz, also called GUARD.

Note : In text mode, every controller/pilot connected at the same time as you can see what you are writing if COM is set on 121.500.

GUARD is the emergency VHF frequency worldwide and as such, it has to be used for emergencies only. Particularly, GUARD must not be used for coordinations nor activation/deactivation messages; use the chat windows or the ATC channel for this (see L5-Coordination).

An emergency could be an aircraft failure, an ATC critical situation where safety is engaged (virtually of course, but if you want it as real as it gets...). Controllers, when you lost a pilot, use guard to contact him only :

- if no other system works (chat, private msg, voice); or,

- if you have to take an immediate action with him/her (an aircrfat blocking the runway while you have trafic on final for instance...).
