1 - CONTROLLERS
The ratings of Controller 1 and above are awarded after successfully
completing a practical and theoretical exam.
Theoretical exams are available online. Click
UPGRADE in the main menu. The system automatically checks
if you have the requested number of logged hours and if there is at least
30 days since you got the previous controller licence (if any).
Practical exams are conducted online at division level
with ProController on IVAN with an examiner watching your communications
and traffic. He/she may also fly to simulate certain emergencies or
unusual situations. The form is available online once your theoretical
exam has been validated. The examiner will insert your mark into the
form you filled to request a practical exam. Once both theoretical and
practical exams are validated, your new rating is effective.
If you do not belong to any division, choose one HERE
or contact the TD or
the TAD.
The exams are divided into three 'units' covering the
three very different areas of controlling. In the real world, you would
normally specialise in one of these areas for your whole career, however -
in IVAO - you will need to complete all the units to achieve the higher
ratings. The Controller ratings show ability to control to a high standard
in these units (where Controller 1 means you can control in one unit, and
Controller 3 means you can control in all three). We have reorganized the
test to create progressive curses from GND/TWR, then DEP/APP and CTR at
last.
These exams are the minimum IVAO standards for each level. Divisions
may request higher levels and requirements.
For more information on
aviation issues it is also recommended to read the Aeronautical
Information Manual (AIM) published by the countries' air safety
authorities (contact your Division Training Department for
details).
