Exam

Welcome to IVAO's automated examining system

The exams for Controllers or Pilots have been structured based upon a progressive ranking system that is based upon examinations and hours.

Procedure (advanced details at Exam policy )

Exams for ATC and pilots will be done in a similar way.

First, you'll have to pass a (theoretical only) test on the use of ProController for ATC or SquawkBox/FSInn for pilots. These exams are mandatory to get Student 3 and Captain ratings, respectively.

Once this test was successful, you can request the following levels, each consisting of theoretical and a practical test, taking into account the following conditions :

The exams have to be taken in successive order of the level, starting with 4, 5, 6, ....
the minimum hours to be able to request the test are listed below :

Level ATC Pilot Hours Remark
2 Student1 Second Flight Officer 0 No exam(s) required
3 Student2 First Flight Officer 10 No exam(s) required
4 Student3 Captain 25 Theoretical exam
5 Controller1 Flight Captain 50 Theoretical and practical exam
6 Controller2 Senior Captain 100 Theoretical and practical exam
7 Controller3 Senior Flight Captain 200 Theoretical and practical exam
8 Instructor1 Commercial Captain 500 Theoretical and practical exam
9 Instructor2 Commercial Flight Captain 1000 Theoretical and practical exam
10 Instructor3 Commercial Senior Captain 2000 Theoretical and practical exam ( not ready yet )

Also, sometimes, there is a minimum delay between two exams :

  • no delay, between theoretical and practical exam of same level.
  • 90 days for exams evaluated and validated with 0/100
  • 30 days for exams evaluated and validated between 1/100 and 50/100
  • 15 days for exams evaluated and validated between 51/100 and 74/100
  • 30 days, after a successful exam, and starting the next higher level

Theoretical Exams

Upon request, an exam will be created for you, the questions will be selected at random from a predefined list.

The language to be used for questions and answers is English only !

A theoretical exam consists of 20 questions, selected at random.
You have a maximum of 45 minutes to fill in the examination paper, and should you exceed this limit, the exam will be recorded as failed automatically -- so ensure you submit your answers in time.

There are five marks for each question. The pass-mark for an exam is 75/100.

Practical Exams

After succeeding in a theoretical test, you can request for a practical exam.
